What Do You Know About Neuroscience?
What Do You Know About Neuroscience?
Neuroscience involves many areas including the development, structure, function, chemistry, pharmacology, clinical assessments and pathology of the nervous system. It has become recognized as one of the most interesting areas of science. Neuroscience researchers study and analyze everything from genes to behaviors. Their research in this area has lead to the understanding of how the human brain works, determine how the nervous system operates, and find ways to prevent and cure neurological damage It is a field of science that integrates biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, psychology, and behavior with the areas of human emotions and cognitive functions.
Each person has 100 billion neurons to control the nervous system. These neurons, along with molecules create a network that operates the nervous system. This allows us to see, hear, learn, and breathe. It also controls our personal behaviors.
Neuroscientists generally work in a specific area because the spectrum it covers is too broad. Neuroanatomists study the structure and organization of the nervous system. They study specific neurons and identify their characteristics and functions. Developmental neuroscientists study the growth of the brain as well as changes to the brain. They define the chemicals and processes that take place. They use this information to help people recover from neurological injuries.
Behavioral and cognitive neuroscientists study the functions of perception, learning, and memory. They often use brain scans called magnetic resonance imaging, known as MRI, to identify the parts of the brain that are active during a given activity.
Neuroscientists are combining their knowledge with computer technology to further explore the complexity of the brain. This area of research is growing at an astonishing rate. This field hopes to someday find cures for ailments including strokes, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Medical Term: Braxton Hicks contractions
Braxton Hicks contractions: Irregular contractions of the womb (the uterus) occurring towards the middle of pregnancy in the first pregnancy and, earlier and more intensely, in subsequent pregnancies.
These contractions tend to occur during physical
activity. The uterus tightens for 30 to 60 seconds beginning at the top of the
uterus; and the contraction gradually spreads downward before relaxing. Although said to be painless, Braxton Hicks contractions may be quite uncomfortable and sometimes difficult to
distinguish from the contractions of true labor.
Not named for a Dr. Braxton and a Dr. Hicks but for John Braxton Hicks (1823-1897), a British gynecologist.

Medical News: Important Breakthrough In Origins Of Aggressive Breast Cancer
Researchers have made a major breakthrough in finding out how aggressive cancers originate, raising hope of novel targeted therapies for future breast cancer patients, according to a study published in the peer-reviewed journal Cell Stem Cell. The scientists say this is the first study to show that the most aggressive cancers probably arise from intermediary, or progenitor, cells, which may significantly influence future research into fighting breast cancer...

Courses in Chinese Medicine
Courses in Chinese Medicine
Courses in Chinese medicine are gaining momentum in the United States -- largely in part due to public migration to natural and noninvasive healthcare services. Basic academic programs in Chinese medicine involve theories and philosophies of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), TCM diagnosis, acupuncture theory and application, cupping, moxibustion, Tuina (Chinese medical massage), holistic nutrition, and Chinese herbal medicine.
To earn your Master's degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine, there are courses in Chinese medicine to accommodate your educational needs. However, applicants should note that most of these Chinese medicine colleges and schools require educational prerequisites; namely, a bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited school or university. In addition, be prepared to dedicate a fair amount of time to your Oriental medicine studies -- degreed courses in Chinese medicine often require four years of combined education, clinical and practical training.
For the serious candidate, there are more advanced courses in Chinese medicine; which include the Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. General studies involve much of the aforementioned coursework, as well as classical Chinese medicine application, Chinese medicine language, evidence-based medicine, clinical studies and family medicine, among other associated subject matter.
Prospective students who would like to enroll in shorter courses in Chinese medicine find that Tuina certificate programs better suit time constraints. Though studies may vary to some degree, most Tuina certification courses include training in hand and structural techniques, Oriental medicine theory and massage points, Western and Asian bodywork therapies, and other related studies. These courses in Chinese medicine can often be completed in less than six months.
If you (or someone you know) are interested in learning more about these or other Oriental medicine programs, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore courses in Chinese medicine near you.

Breaking Medical News: Osteoporosis Drugs May Be Linked to Cancer Risk
The long-term use of oral bisphosphonate osteoporosis drugs such as Actonel, Boniva, and Fosamax may be associated with a doubling in esophageal cancer risk, but the risk to individual users remains small, researchers say.
